原曲がどのような感じだったのかが分かりませんが、元々は黒人霊歌だそうです。 演られる方によって曲調が全然違うので、違う歌だと勘違いしますね・・・。 ブルースもそんな感じが結構ありますが、ゴスペルになると多様性というか自由度が増しております。



古くからあらゆる地域、教会で歌われていたからこそ、其々にオリジナリティ溢れる曲になっていったのでしょうなぁ。 どの時代から歌われていたのか不明ですが、死と隣り合わせの日々の中で神に救いを求める切実さが伝わってきます。

"Soon One Morning" って感じは、ブルースの常套句になっている "Woke up this morning" みたいな感じもしますが、朝目が覚めるのが恐ろしい時代だったのかもしれませんなぁ。 （分からんけど・・）

Boyd Rivers も好きやけど、やはり Fred McDowell ですわ。
